Illinois was the second US state to legalize riverboat casinos and began operating there in September 1991.
All Illinois riverboats casinos were originally required to cruise but in June 1999 a ruling was passed permitting dockside gambling. State law limits the number of gaming licenses to 10 and the maximum number of gaming machines for any licensee to 1,200. Unlike Mississippi, Illinois riverboat casinos are not open 24 hours and the hours.
All casinos normally offer: slots, video poker, blackjack, craps, roulette and caribbean stud poker. Some casinos also offer: let it ride, baccarat, mini-baccarat, and poker. The minimum gambling age is 21.
