General: Bolivia is a landlocked country in central South America. However, it does have access to the Atlantic Ocean via the Paraguay River. Bolivia is a constitutional democracy and one of the least-developed countries in South America. Tourist facilities are generally adequate, but vary greatly in quality. The capital city of Bolivia is La Paz. The western part is a great plateau called the Altiplano. Almost half the population lives on the plateau, which contains Oruro, Potosi, and La Paz. Languages: All of the 30 indigenous languages and Spanish are official languages of the state according to the 2009 Constitution. Spanish and Quechua are spoken primarily in the Andes region, Aymara is mainly spoken in the Altiplano around Lake Titicaca, and Guarani in the southeast on the border with Paraguay.
Climate: The weather in Bolivia can vary drastically from one climatic zone to another. The summer months in Bolivia are November through March. The weather is warmer and wetter during these months. The winter months, April through October, are colder and drier.

Taxis: Two types of taxis are available in Bolivia: privately owned and company-owned radio-taxis (radiomoviles). Taxis in Bolivia are relatively cheap. Taxi cabs can be found anywhere at any time in almost any city or town in Bolivia. It is advisable that you agree the cost of the trip before you get in into the cab. Taxis can also be chartered for longer distances and can be hired by the day or half-day. The most reliable taxis are the radio-taxis and display brightly lit signs with their telephone number on top of the cab.
Currency: The Bolivian Boliviano (BOB) is the currency in Bolivia. The symbol for BOB can be written Bs. The Bolivian Boliviano is divided into 100 centavos. The approximate exchange rate on 7th January 2011 was: 1 Euro = 9.1 BOB, 1 US$ = 7.0 BOB, 1 GBŁ = 10.8 BOB.
Casinos: Gambling casinos were prohibited in Bolivia until 2002 when the government permitted a foreign company to build for the first time a casino based on bingo, in both its traditional and electronic formats.
