Players also have a chance to multiply their prizes (except the jackpot) by up to 5 times with the Power Play option. For an extra $1 per play, you are eligible for Power Play.
After each Powerball drawing, a Power Play number is randomly selected using a spin wheel. If you win a prize on your Powerball ticket (not the jackpot), and you have purchased the Power Play option, you receive the regular prize amount multiplied by the Power Play number that was selected.
For example, if you win $7 on Powerball and have purchased Power Play for that ticket, you will win $7 multiplied by the Power Play number (2, 3, 4, or 5) which could be up to $35.
The extra play is purely optional. The prize for those who do not purchase the Power Play option remains the same as always. Powerball and Power Play tickets are not cancelable.
How it works
A spin wheel with 16 slots numbered 2 through 5 (there are four 2s, four 3s, four 4s, and four 5s on the wheel) are used to select the Power Play multiplier number during each Powerball drawing show. All players who have purchased Power Play will see their prize (except the jackpot) multiplied by the Power Play number that was drawn.
The Power Play feature is similar to features used in other states and countries with good success. It's similar to features on a slot machine to double up. The table below outlines the prize payments for each Power Play multiplier, which is 2 to 5 times the base prize.
Odds and prizes
As there are four of each Power Play multiplier on the wheel (four 2s, four 3s, four 4s, and four 5s), there is an equal chance that any one of them will be drawn (odds are 1:4 for each). The prizes are as follows:
