There are 22 Native Indian casinos operating in Washington and 14 of the casinos are affiliated with tribes that have agreements with the state that allow them to offer table games, as well as a special kind of gaming machine that is similar to a slot machine.

These gaming machines have video screens and are not allowed to accept cash. Instead, a cashless smart card system is used whereby you have to go to a cashier cage, or a kiosk, and buy a smart card, which tracks your activity and deducts losses, or credits wins to your account.

Of the state’s remaining eight casinos, four are affiliated with the Spokane Tribe, three are operated by the Colville Confederated Tribes and one is affiliated with the Shoalwater Tribe. All of these Tribes have an ongoing dispute with the state and are operating without agreements. All eight of their casinos offer regular slot machines as well as table games.

All casinos normally are open 24 hours and offer: blackjack, craps, roulette, and pull tabs. Other games offered include: baccarat, mini baccarat, poker, pai gow poker, caribbean stud poker, three-card poker, Spanish 21, big 6 wheel, keno, and bingo. The minimum gambling age is 18 or 21 if liquor is served.

For more information on Washington call the state’s Tourism Department on (800) 544-1800.

Card Rooms

Card rooms have been legal in Washington since 1974. Initially limited to just five tables per location, the law was changed in 1996 to allow up to 15 tables. Then, one year later, a provision was added to allow house-banked games. Permissible games include: blackjack, caribbean stud poker, pai gow poker, let it ride, and casino war. The games of baccarat, craps, roulette and keno are not allowed.

The maximum bet at each card room is dependant on certain licensing requirements and is limited to either $3, $25 or $100. Additionally, the rooms can be open up to 20 hours per day. These card rooms are now commonly called 'mini-casinos'.

Each city and county has the option to ban the card rooms so you may not find in every major city.
